A useful way to understand padel is to stop thinking only about individual shots and start thinking about court positions. Most rallies move through three broad jobs: defend, transition and attack.
At the back of the court you are usually rebuilding and absorbing pressure. Through the middle of the court you are moving between jobs. At the net you are trying to control the point.
What to do
The transition area is important because it is not normally where you want to remain. Move through it with purpose. If you have earned time, continue forward. If the opponents have taken control, recover deeper rather than getting trapped in between.
This gives every shot a bigger context. A lob can help you move from defence toward attack. A weak ball can force you back from attack into defence.
Why it works
Thinking in patterns makes decisions simpler. Instead of asking only 'which shot should I hit?', ask 'what job are we doing now, and where should our pair be next?'
That is the foundation of smarter positioning: defend together, move together and attack together.
